Maturo ‘Sorry’ Xpect is Closing
East Haven’s mayor said he is “very sorry” that Xpect Discounts will be closing down its Frontage Street store on April 1.
Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., said: “My whole family shopped at Xpect. I am very sorry to see this company leave Connecticut.”
Two other Xpect stores, in Milford and Cromwell, will also close on April 1. The three stores are the last Xpect stores operating in the state of Connecticut.
“Many of our residents have expressed the same feeling about losing their favorite store,” continued Maturo. “It is very unfortunate that good companies like Xpect can no longer do business in this very-high-taxed state.”
Sal Brancati, East Haven’s economic development director and the mayor’s director of administration and management, said he’s spoken to the landlord of the Frontage Road building about possible future tenants for the site. He said there is nobody currently lined up to replace Xpect when it closes on April 1, leaving 65 employees without a job.
