Branford Car Break-ins: Police Nab Two Juveniles
Branford police arrested a 17 year-old and 15 year-old, both residents of New Haven, after locating them in Branford when responding to an early morning report of two individuals entering parked cars at Thimble Island Condominiums.
The following information is from a Branford Police Department press release:
Feb. 2, 2016: Branford's Emergency Communications Center was contacted shortly after midnight by an alert resident of the Thimble Island Condominiums, 45 Jefferson Road, as she watched two individuals going into parked cars within the condominium parking area.
Police Lt. John Alves, who commands the midnight shift, said that Officers Michael O'Connor, Christopher Cope, Bryan McGinnis and Jeffrey Zadjura swiftly located a 17 year-old juvenile and later located a second 15 year-old juvenile, both from New Haven, in the condominium complex. Police determined through their investigation that both juveniles had gone into a number of unlocked cars, rummaging through personal belongings and taking money.
Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran said that this serves as a couple of constant reminders to the public. First, the Chief said, "If you see something, say something by immediately reporting it to police." Second, "Please remember to lock your vehicle when unattended to reduce the opportunity of becoming a victim by potential thieves."
Both juveniles were referred to New Haven Juvenile Court. They were each charged with Burglary 3rd Degree; Conspiracy to Commit Burglary 3rd Degree; Larceny 6th Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th Degree. Both were later released to an immediate family member.
