New Restaurant Coming to Whitfield’s Spot
After 10 years in town, Whitfield’s Restaurant will be closing its doors at the end of the year. The restaurant space, located at 25 Whitfield Street on the Guilford Green, won’t be vacant for long, though, as a new tenant has already signed on to the lease.
While there had been some speculation about which restaurant owner would fill the space, the new tenant will be a relative newcomer to the Guilford area.
Landlord for the property and owner of Greene Art Gallery Kathryn Greene said she’s sad to see Whitfield’s leave, but is excited for the new restaurant, which will be called D’Vine.
“Whitfield’s has told me that they are retiring after a good, 10-year run,” she said. “The new tenants are Tom and Jessyca Ammerman. Tom is a sommelier.”
The restaurant will be a French-American bistro according to owner, Tom Ammerman.
“It is going to be a French American bistro featuring classic French cuisine with a modern American flair,” he said.
Ammerman said he was drawn to the Guilford location because of the community and looks forward to presenting the restaurant.
The restaurant “is kind of a manipulation of all of the training and experience that I have had and kind of blending it all together,” he said.
The new tenants will also renovate the restaurant space before opening. Construction is scheduled to begin Friday, Jan. 8.
“I am going to highlight a lot of the features that already exist in the restaurant, and really just bring it into just a more functional place,” he said, “bringing in that classic bistro feel.”
The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner and will offer a Sunday brunch.
“Entrees are $19 to $32,” he said. “We will feature a 60- to 100-bottle wine list with 80 percent of my wines under $60.”
D’Vine is expected to open by late February 2016.
