On lamp posts along Branford's Main Street, beautiful baskets of holiday greenery and red bows placed by the Branford Garden Club yesterday were given an added bit of color: those of the French national flag, also known as the tricolore. The flag is represented at each basket with the addition of a ribbon of blue, white and red.

BGC's immediate past president Michalah Bracken is credited with suggesting the idea, endorsed by BGC president Bonnie McKirdy.

"We are  honoring the tragic losses in Paris this week by this remembrance ribbon which we plan to have in place of an indefinite period of time," said BGC member Paula Inglese.

Branford photographer Bill O'Brien beautifully captured a photo of one of the ribboned baskets on Nov. 16, with a background view of Branford's American flag on the town green, flying at half-mast.  Flags were set at half-mast across the nation in tribute those killed following last week's ISIS terrorist attacks in Paris.
