11/17/2015 11:00 AMFamilies Helping Families and the Lewin G. Joel Jr. Elementary School have partnered for their ninth annual food drive, which will provide regular meals as well as a full Thanksgiving dinner for those in need.
“These are busy times for Families Helping Families,” said Miner Vincent, president and co-founder of the local nonprofit that provides food, energy assistance, toiletries, school supplies, and other items.
“As the needs of Clinton families continue to increase, we are stepping up our efforts to supply healthy and nutritious food on a weekly basis. This food drive is one of the most important ones in Clinton,” he said. “It is a truly remarkable event, as all members of the Joel School community join in this all-out effort to help.”
The food drive takes place the week of Nov. 16 to 20.
“We are working with the Clinton Food Pantry to provide full Thanksgiving tables for clients, and we will give out four to five times the amount of produce we normally provide,” Vincent anticipated. “Our goal is to help people using the food pantry have a traditional Thanksgiving table.”
Anyone interested in supporting the effort is asked to send a donation to Families Helping Families, P.O. Box 166, Clinton, CT 06413.
“Because we are able to buy produce at wholesale prices,” said Vincent, “we can make donation dollars go even further.”
