In North Branford, electors are exercising their right to vote with a higher than average turnout reported at both town polling places this morning. 

By 11 a.m. District One (Jerome Harrison School) had been visited by well over 300 registered voters and District Two (Stanley T. Williams Community Center) was climbing over 350. District Two traditionally gathers a higher percentage of turnout among the two poll sites.

District Two Moderator Lisa Fitch told Zip06 voting was steady with a "consistent" morning turn-out -- kicked off by a line of voters waiting for the poll to open at 6 a.m.

"We had people waiting at 6 o'clock and it has been consistent all morning. There's always been somebody in one of the booths at all times," said Fitch, at 11:30 a.m. "I truly believe that this is what's important -- the grassroots vote-- this is vote that effects you the most, where you can make the most impact. So I really feel people are coming out; and I feel good about that."

Fitch said she believes the numbers at the polls will stay steady and possibly increase as the day goes on.

"The weather is beautiful -- there's no excuse not to come out. We are lucky we can vote," said Fitch.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. tonight.
