Brewery's $15K Donation Buys BFD 'Jaws of Life'
October 19, 2015 – Branford- The Branford Fire Department (BFD) is excited to accept a $15,000 donation from Stony Creek Brewery for the purchase of a new state of the art piece of extrication equipment, commonly referred to as the "Jaws of Life."
This equipment will be unveiled at a fire safety open house and extrication demonstration at the Stony Creek Brewery, 5 Indian Neck Ave., on Sun. Oct. 25 from noon – 4 p.m. The unveiling of the equipment and the live extrication demonstration are scheduled to take place at 2 p.m.
"The department's current tool depends on being hooked up to a fire truck, which limits its availability to help people," said Branford Fire Chief Tom Mahoney. "This new equipment is battery operated which allows us to take it wherever the accident is, such as down an embankment or into a collapsed building. We are no longer tied to their truck."
"Branford is our community. Supporting of the Branford Fire Department is one way of expressing our thanks while helping protect our neighbors and visitors. We try to do our part." said Stony Creek Brewery founder Ed Crowley.
"The Jaws of Life is a critical tool that helps us to save lives." added Chief Mahoney. "We appreciate the Crowley family's ongoing support of the Branford Fire Department."
