Costco Heads for IW Agenda
This Thursday, Sept. 10 could bring Branford's Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) its first look at Costco's site plan for a two-phase development on East Industrial Road off Exit 56.
The current agenda set for the Thurs. Sept. 10 IWC meeting doesn't include Costco, but that could change tomorrow, when Costco is expected to submit the site plan to the Inlands Wetlands office.
The Sound checked in with Town Hall this afternoon and confirmed that a call from Costco had been made to the Inlands Wetlands office to report the site plan was expected to be delivered to Town Hall tomorrow. If the plan arrives before 4 p.m. on Sept. 9, it will be accepted as an item as part of the Sept. 10 IWC meeting.
Then, following past practice, it's likely the commission will allow for a brief overview from a representative of Costco Wholesale Corp. during the Sept. 10 meeting, which is set for 7:30 p.m. at Canoe Brook Senior Center, 11 Cherry Hill Road. However, due to ordinance regulations regarding notification procedures, if the item is placed on the Sept. 10 agenda, a public hearing on the site plan would not take place until October 2015 at the earliest.
In July, following a four-part public hearing process, Branford Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) approved Costco's Planned Development District for the site, with PZC stipulations (see the story http://bit.ly/1hUhTgB ). Last month, First Selectman James B. Cosgrove led a 2-1 vote by the Board of Selectmen to replace three IWC members with expired terms with three new members; two as voting members and one as an alternate (see the story http://bit.ly/1VLJRdk ).
The Sept. 10 IWC meeting will be the first gathering of the commission to include the newly-appointed members.
