Kids HUGS: Free Fall Sessions
Children of families with a parent faced with life-changing health issues are urged to join Kids HUGS, a free peer support program based in Guilford serving area residents of all towns.
Kids HUGS (Hope, Understanding, Growth, and Support) is now enrolling families for their free fall 2015 peer support program. The first session of the fall program is Mon., Sept. 28. The group meets monthly at the Women & Family Life Center, 96 Fair St. in Guilford and offers children with a parent who is experiencing a serious illness, chronic disease, disability or injury a safe and guided space to explore their emotions relating to this unique experience.
The program is free of charge thanks to the support of the Nathanial K. Fenollosa Fund of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. Kids HUGS, a volunteer-driven, professionally structured program, provides unique support services for children ages 6 -16 navigating changes in life due to a parent's illness. Groups are led by a certified child life specialist and specially trained volunteers to provide opportunities for expression through creative arts, movement and play.
Kids HUGS offers children the opportunity to become part of a community where they can meet other children and learn to express their emotions in a nurturing environment.Parents meet other families experiencing a similar life situation and develop a community of their own. Through support groups, Kids HUGS provides hope and understanding, and allows growth and support to parents and children during a difficult time.
Children and their families are invited to enroll now for monthly Monday night sessions beginning Sept. 28 and continuing the fourth Monday of each month. To register, send an email to info@kidshugs.org For more information visit www.kidshugs.org
