A Different Flavor for Taste the Shoreline 2015
Each summer, the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce hosts its Taste the Shoreline event. This year, however, the organization has moved toward a new, family theme that comes along with new features for the event.
The event, which is free and open to the entire community, will be hosted from noon to 5 p.m. on the Guilford Green on Saturday, Aug. 22. In past years, the Taste the Shoreline has been held at the Guilford Fairgrounds, but the change of venue has purpose.
One of the main differences that came with this shift in location is that there will no longer be any alcohol at the event. The Green has a strict, no-alcohol policy.
“We now have a really family friendly focus,” said Anna Munafo, representative of Shoreline Chamber of Commerce. “We have upped the number of food vendors. The most we ever had in the past was 12, I think, and we have 19 this year or it might even be 20.”
Though there will be no alcohol sold or open containers of alcohol allowed on the Guilford Green, the event still involves alcohol in a different fashion. Munafo said that there are at least 10 baskets to be raffled off on Saturday, including two wheelbarrows, one of which includes 40 bottles of wine and another that is filled with beers and Stony Creek Brewery swag.
“That’s a really fun one to win,” said Munafo. “A cooler was also donated with 12 bottles of vodka and four bottles of whiskey. They are all different flavors, things most people have probably never had before.”
In addition to raffles and food vendors, there will also be entertainment for adults and children alike. There will be live music from various groups, including the Madison School of Rock group that will perform from noon to 1:30 p.m. Three dance studios will also perform throughout the day.
Movie princesses Elsa and Anna will be present to help with face painting, and a clown will also make an appearance. Organizers will also host a variety of kids’ games on the Green.
