07/22/2015 09:30 AMIf you tend to push the speed limits on town roads, you may find yourself with a speeding ticket this summer.
That’s because the town was awarded its first ever federal speed enforcement grant. The $19,000 grant, which requires no town matching funds, will support more resident trooper shifts focused on speed enforcement.
The added speed enforcement shifts will run from the middle of July through September. The resident state troopers will determine the time and locations for the enforcement actions.
The town also received a $25,000 federal grant to support added state trooper hours for enforcement of driving under the influence (DUI) statutes. That grant requires a $6,000 town match.
The town recently learned that its cost-sharing bill for resident state trooper service will rise by an estimated $105,671 this year. That cost will not be offset by the speed enforcement grant.
