07/14/2015 02:00 PMFirst Selectman Noel Bishop announced June 30 his intention to run for a fourth term as Westbrook’s first selectman. Bishop made the announcement at a meeting of the Westbrook Republican Town Committee.
Joining Bishop in his run for re-election are incumbent Selectman John Hall III, Town Treasurer Jane Butterworth, and Tax Collector Kimberly Bratz.
“I’m excited to be running with John, Jane and Kimberly for another term and all of us look forward to continuing our service to the town”, said Bishop.
In his remarks to his fellow Republican Town Committee members, Bishop cited his eight years of careful stewardship of the town’s finances.
“It’s been a team effort”, said Bishop. “I think Westbrook’s taxpayers know that we are incredibly prudent in our expenditures and that John and I review every budget request from a direction of fiscal responsibility.”
Bishop also points proudly to a return of civility in Westbrook politics.
“Board and commission vacancies continue to be at historic lows. People are eager to participate in the town’s governance,” Bishop said. “Ten years ago, four referendums were required to pass the budget by a narrow margin.”
In contrast, every budget presented since Bishop took office has passed by wide margins at the first referendum.
Republican Town Committee Chairman Harry Ruppenicker, Jr., announced that the town’s Republican Party has assembled a full slate of candidates in addition to Bishop, Hall, Butterworth, and Bratz. A Republican Caucus will be held at the Mulvey Center on Wednesday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m. In addition, prior to the caucus, a free cookout, open to all town residents, will be held starting at 6:30 p.m. on the Mulvey Center lawn,
Bishop was first elected to a full term as first selectman in November 2007. John Hall was first elected to the Board of Selectmen in 2009. Jane Butterworth has served as town treasurer since 2011. Kimberly Bratz has served as tax collector since 1998.
