Beloved Blast-Off Returns: Branford Fireworks July 25

It took a week to work out, but a new date is set for the 2015 Branford Fireworks Display: Saturday, July 25 at 9:30 p.m. with a raindate of Sunday, July 26.

The beloved blast-off of one of the shoreline’s biggest and best fireworks displays will launch from the Town Dock at Branford Point. Usually done as a prequel to the Fourth of July, this year’s planned display date of June 27 date was a wash-out, with continuing inclement weather on June 28 causing the display to be called off for the weekend.

The Branford Fireworks Display is witnessed by some 5,000 people annually and supported mainly by donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations, together with a contribution from the town. This year’s cancellation has introduced plenty of residents to the all-volunteer Branford Fireworks Committee’s Facebook page, where updates were posted when available.

The delay in picking a new date had to do with coordinating a quick turn-around with the display’s contracted fireworks company, Bay Fireworks of Masachusetts, during what is understandably the company’s busiest season. The first potential update came a few days after the weekend cancellation, but the best information Committee Chair Jeffrey Vailette could secure at that time was that it would be rescheduled to take place “no sooner” than July 18, with July 25 as another possible date. Confirmation of the July 25 rescheduling was shared by the committee on July 8.
