07/07/2015 07:41 PMFollowing an extensive process of many months to review candidates, Branford has a new Fire Chief, and he's been hired from within. Deputy Chief Tom Mahoney will be promoted to Fire Chief pending contract approval.
Mahoney was given the appointment following a July 6 executive session of the Branford Fire Commission. The following announcement was released by Commission Chairman Robert J. Massey, Jr.:
"On behalf of the Board of Fire Commissioners I am pleased to announce the Appointment of Deputy Chief Tom Mahoney to the Rank of Fire Chief, Branford Fire Department pending contract approval with the Fire Commission.
Please congratulate and give Chief Mahoney your utmost support as our departments' new Leader.
The Commission will determine Chief Mahoney's effective start date at the July 2015 Fire Commission meeting."
Mahoney fills the vacancy left by former Fire Chief Jack Ahern, who retired on Dec. 26, 2014 following 38 years of service with the department.
