Freda Announces North Haven’s Continuance of ‘No Cost’ Leaf Compost Material Available
First Selectman Michael J. Freda has announced today that beginning June 1, 2015, North Haven’s Department of Public Works will be offering finished leaf compost materials to North Haven residents at no cost.
The compost materials have been generated by the Town’s Fall Leaf Collection Program, which starts annually in November of each year. The goal of the compost program is to collect the leaves, loose and bagged curbside, compost the leaves by introducing moisture and air into the various piles and ultimately, to provide residents with an unlimited supply of compost material at no cost.
“Having the entire process completed in-house by Public Works, from collection to re-distribution, allows the Town to provide the materials to its residents without a fee and to save the taxpayers previously incurred contractual costs.” Selectman Freda stated.
Beginning June 1
st
, compost will be available at the Elm Street Recycling Center (adjacent to the North Haven Health and Racquet Club) on a first-come, first-served basis. The compost will be left outside of the Recycling Center gate to be made available 24 hours a day.
To ensure the success of the first year of the composting program, the Town has developed the following guidelines for Residential Compost Pickup.
