VIBE Alum Return for Performance at Daniel Hand High School
While FOX’s Glee sang its final note in March, those who love the show choir performances can have a similar experience on Sunday, May 31 when Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) VIBE Show Choir hosts a fundraiser featuring both past and present performers.
VIBE is a show choir that mixes dancing with singing and competes all over New England and in national festivals, performing at the Show Choir Nationals at the Grand Ole Opry in March. With the performances, competitions, uniforms, set construction, and professional choreography, VIBE needs to raise more than $12,000 each year.
The VIBE fundraiser will not only feature current members of the choir, but more than 50 alumni as well, ranging from members of the Class of 2014 to members of classes from more than 10 years ago. The current VIBE choir consists of 58 singers/dancers, nine band members, and five crew members.
“I invited everyone who has ever been a part of it to come perform,” said Ron Soja, director of the choir. “This is a special performance, and I hope to do this every five years.”
The current VIBE group will perform its Game of Thrones theme before three VIBE alum and recent college graduates, who majored in music, perform a few numbers. The group of alumni will close the performance with two songs.
“The alum received a video and audio file to practice with,” said Soja. “We will practice for three hours before the performance as many alum will be traveling to get back for this.”
The VIBE Show Choir’s 2015 fundraiser will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 7 p.m. at DHHS. Tickets—$15 for adults and $10 for students—are available at R.J. Julia Booksellers. For information or tickets, email Ron Soja at sojar@madison.k12.ct.us.
