Old Saybrook Tree-Trimming Project to Start
Starting this month, two utility contractors, Asplundh and Lucas Tree, will begin trimming town trees to reduce the chance that a falling tree or tree branch could take down power lines and cause a major power outage.
“I had a meeting with Eversource and they said they would be doing extensive tree-trimming in town,” said First Selectman Carl Fortuna.
Eversource is the new corporate name for Connecticut Light & Power, the electric utility that operates the power lines that bring power to most Connecticut homes and businesses.
Among the roads that are on the utility’s tree-trimming list are two town roads that are designated as scenic roads. As a result, the Planning Commission held a public hearing on the tree-trimming plan for those streets on May 6.
Also on the list for the tree-trimming firms is Old Boston Post Road.
“The utility’s contractors will be out on the streets starting this month,” said Fortuna.
