04/15/2015 10:10 AMOn March 26, the Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to deny payment to Richard Leighton on invoices he might submit for work done in February 2015. Last week, Fire Commission Chairman Bob Hagemeister asked the board to reconsider its March vote.
The selectmen voted in March after a one-hour executive session with Town Labor Attorney Gabe Jiran advising them.
Hagemeister said that he knows the town paid Leighton’s January invoice, even though it included work both as a consultant/construction manager for the Riggio Building and for his duties as a deputy fire marshal, which is why he was appealing to the board to also agree to pay Leighton’s invoice for February work.
In response to Hagemeister’s comments, First Selectman Noel Bishop then made a motion to agree to pay Richard Leighton’s invoices for work performed in February 2015. His motion died for lack of a second. As a result, the board’s prior action of March 26 with respect to Leighton’s invoices remains in effect.
