Town Meeting Jan. 12 on Madison School Security
A town meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Polson Middle School auditorium to vote on spending $472,000 to improve school security at the town's public schools.
The town is hoping to have 30 percent, or $141,000, of the cost reimbursed by state grants. The school security improvements include expanding its security camera program to monitor the schools and to vastly upgrade the phone systems.
School officials stated that the primary project has to do with an expansive security camera program to monitor the schools.
The second phase of the plan is to upgrade the phone systems in the classrooms from the older intercom systems currently installed.
To get the state reimbursement, the work needs to be done by June of next year-"Which is why we need to move quick on this," said First Selectmen Fillmore McPherson.
School officials said that Chief of Police Jack Drumm would be consulted on the plan and implementation of the upgrades.
