Austria is the subject of Fred Rosenthal’s new fine art photography show premiering at the Blackstone Memorial Library in Branford on Sunday, Jan 4 at 2:00 p.m. and running through January 31. Visitors will be able to take a pictorial tour including Salzburg and Vienna, and the surrounding lush countryside.
“My first visit to Austria was as a soldier in the U.S. Army of Occupation in the 1950’s,” explained photographer Fred Rosenthal. “I was captivated by the stunning beauty of the lakes, hills and mountains, and charmed by the old-world atmosphere and architecture of the country. The beauty has lured me back time and again – these images are from my recent adventure this past September.”
This is Branford resident Fred Rosenthal’s second invitation to the Blackstone. Fred is an award-winning photographer whose work has been displayed in venues throughout the state. Fred also holds occasional classes for fellow photographers that have included night photography expeditions to New York City. Rosenthal’s philosophy of photography is simple, “If you want to get great images, you need to develop a point-of-view. Digital technology has made photography very interesting, but it starts with the ability to tell a story or capture the essence of a fleeting moment in time.”
More than thirty images are included in the show – featuring the streets of Salzburg where Mozart lived and was inspired, the Mirabell Gardens and Palace, the Salzburg Cathedral, the Salzkammergut or Lake District, the Schonbrunn Palace, and the capital of Austria, Vienna, famous for its opera house, St. Stephan's Cathedral, and memorial plaques honoring the Jewish population murdered during the Second World War.
The Blackstone Memorial Library is located at 758 Main Street in Branford, near exit 54 on I-95. The opening reception on Sunday, January 4fmrosenthal@comcast.net.
