Clinton Police Seek Boater Who Crossed Long Island on a Raft

Police are searching for a boater who arrived in Clinton and may have hypothermia.

Clinton police and the Coast Guard said two people on a seven-foot raft left the Long Island town of Greenport at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. They called a friend at 7 p.m., reporting a problem.

The Coast Guard searched Long Island Sound overnight.

The boaters arrived in Clinton early Thursday morning. The Coast Guard said they do not know the area and knocked on doors, seeking assistance.

Police say one man fled as a resident answered her door early Thursday morning.

The other boater was taken to a local hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
