09/26/2014 12:00 AMThe Branford Police Department added more to the ranks on Sept. 22, inducting two new full-time officers and one part-time officer during a Police Commission ceremony at Branford Police Headquarters.
Police Chief Kevin Halloran swore in part-time officer Christopher Cope and full-time officers Amber Radonski and Jeffrey Zadjura. Radonski and Zadjura will begin 22 weeks of Police Academy training in Meriden on Oct. 3. Cope, a retired CT State Police officer and former resident State Trooper in Deep River, will begin four to five weeks of field training in Branford immediately.
Chief Halloran suggested the new officers keep a journal to look back on their career someday, something he said he wished he'd done. He also advised the new officers to "...maintain your morals, character and integrity" and told them they were joining what he felt to be one of the finest police departments in the state.
"You don't realize the impact that you have on people's lives with this job. This is the only job that you have the power to take away somebody's life," Halloran told them.
"People don't deal with police officers that often; and when they do, they want it to be a good experience. And sometimes, people that have a bad experience with police, it gets related to the media and its gets sensationalized. But the majority of police officers ...they go out there every day and they do a good job and they try every day. Keep that in mind," said Halloran.
