Branford Police quickly solved a daytime burglary on Monday, July 7, shortly after it was reported by the homeowner.

Sergeant John Alves, evening shift supervisor, said that officers were dispatched to a home on Featherbed Lane when the resident arrived home around 6:30 p.m. and noticed the front door had been forced open. While officers were securing the home, an alert neighbor called police and reported a white male acting suspiciously in the area. He told the dispatcher that the person had entered into a car carrying computer equipment. The witness was able to provide the dispatcher with a vehicle description, partial registration, the vehicles direction of travel, and a description of the both the suspect and the operator of the getaway vehicle. However police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Using that partial registration, Officer Dominic Eula, who was assisting Officer Luigi Amasino with the investigation, was able to search the police databases of vehicle registrations and find a vehicle that fit the description.

“Within a short time of determining the proper registration, Officer Amasino located the car parked at a local motel on East Main Street," Alves said. "Contact was made with the suspects and they were taken into custody after admitting to the burglary.” 

Police arrested Jack Butler, 24 of Branford, and charged him with conspiracy to commit burglarly in the third degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the fourth degree. According to police Butler was the owner and driver of the vehicle.

Police also arrested Michael Bianchi, 28, of New Haven, and charged him wiht burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, larceny in the 4th degree, and conspiracy to commit largceny in the 4th degree.

Bianchi and Butler were each held on a $10,000 bond and were arrainged in New Haven Court on Tuesday, July 8.
