05/14/2014 12:00 AMIs it time for Rover's rabies shot? On Saturday, May 31, a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic (for dogs and cats) offers the chance to get your pet vaccinated while helping to support Apple Pi FIRST Robotics Team 2067.
Apple Pi, comprised of students from Guilford, Madison, and Branford, most recently won FIRST's prestigious Chairman's Award at the FIRST New England Regional Robotics Championship (NERC) in Boston in April. FIRST is an international organization that works to inspire students to excel in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The Apple Pi Robotics team has been spreading this message, and actively assisting and volunteering in the community, for the past eight years.
Now, Apple Pi will host the low cost Rabies Vaccination Clinic on May 31 at Bishop's Orchard's "Little Red Barn," 1355 Boston Post Road, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A local veterinarian will administer the vaccinations and a one-year rabies vaccination certificate will be issued. With proof of previous unexpired rabies vaccination, a three-year vaccination certificate may be issued.
No appointment is necessary for the walk-in clinic, which will take place rain or shine. The cost is $30 per animal. Cats should be in a carrier, and dogs must be on a leash.
According to a press release from Apple Pi, by law, animal rabies vaccinations should be kept current. Updated certificates are needed as proof of vaccination when renewing dog licenses in June and for any animals being entered in fairs.
