GPA's 'Railroads in Guilford' on Display


Panels of historic photos now on view at Guilford's train station.

PRESS RELEASE: The Guilford Preservation Alliance (GPA), in cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, is pleased to announce that a permanent exhibit of historical photos, “Railroads in Guilford” has recently been mounted in the south pavilion of the Guilford train station. 

The exhibit is a gift from the Guilford Preservation Alliance to honor the town’s 375

th

anniversary. The photos, depicting 19

th

and 20

th-

century views of the old railroad station, feature everything from Civil War veterans waiting on the platform to depart to Niantic in 1899, to the “Merchants Limited,”en route to Boston, powering through the station in 1969. 

The exhibit is part of an ongoing effort made by the Guilford Preservation Alliance to study and save the surviving buildings at the train station.
