Cosgrove Sworn In As Branford's First Selectman

During the 8 a.m. ceremony, Jamie Cosgrove takes the oath of office as Branford's First Selectman from Patricia Andriole at the Blackstone Library on Nov. 19.

Promising to, “…do some good for the town,” Jamie Cosgrove was sworn in as Branford’s First Selectman at 8 a.m. this morning.

Cosgrove was sworn in and took the oath of office as administered by Patricia Andriole, who served as the Branford Republicans' Honorary Campaign Chair during the 2013 race.

Cosgrove began his brief remarks by thanking the standing room-only audience at the Blackstone Library.

“Thank you all for helping me start off today-- I realize every day is not going to start off like this,” said Cosgrove.

The audience was filled with family, citizens and local and state officials including State Senator Ed Meyer, State Representatives Pat Widlitz and State Representative Lonnie Reed.

Noting the day’s ceremony coincided with the 96th birthday of his grandfather, former Branford First Selectman Daniel P. Cosgrove, Jamie Cosgrove recounted a recent a visit between them; shortly following election night. Cosgrove said the advice he received from his grandfather was to “…go do some good,” for Branford.

“That’s what this is about,” said Cosgrove. “It’s about doing some good for the town, and working with one another -- the citizens of the town, the other elected officials of the town, employees of the town; to do some good for the town."

Saying he'd heard many commenting what a great gift it was for his grandfather to have his grandson sworn in as First Selectman on his 96th birthday, Cosgrove said, " I think the true gift I can give to him is to continue to do some good for the town of Branford.”

Former State Representative William Aniskovich gave the opening remarks for the morning, followed by a wonderful rendition of the national anthem, sung by Cosgrove’s daughter, Ava. Branford-North Branford Probate Judge Frank J. Forgione gave oaths of office and swore in Selectman Joseph Higgins Jr., Town Treasurer Michael Nardella and Tax Collector Joanne Cleary.
