Maturo Claims Victory
Voters in East Haven's seven districts gave Republican Mayor Joseph Maturo, a close, but clear victory over Democratic challenger Jack Stacey and Trolley Party candidate Adam Christoferson and petitioning candidate Oni Sioson.
Maturo got about 52 percent of the vote, nearly 4,000 votes, to 46 percent for Stacey with the minor party candidates splitting up the remaining votes.
Republicans also kept a majority on Town Council, sweeping District 1 in the process. Democrats did score a victory in the race for Board of Finance, picking up a seat to ensure an even split of three members from each party.
That means Maturo is now required to attend Board of Finance meetings as the tiebreaking vote, per Town Charter bylaws.
Meanwhile, Democratic incumbent Town Clerk Stacey Gravino-Piccirillo defeated Republican challenger Michael Speer, 3,515 votes to 3,404 votes.
