Madison Man Charged for Bomb, Gun Threats to Kids on Guilford Green

A 50 year-old Madison man has been arrested and sent for a medical evaluation following an Oct. 30 incident in which he was reportedly screaming, yelling, threatening and chasing children who were gathered on the Green after early dismissal from school.

At approximately 3:45, Guilford Police responded to numerous 911 calls from the area of the Town Green. Upon arrival, the male was located and detained. Numerous witnesses came forward and reported that the male had inferred he had a gun and made gestures to mimic loading and pointing a pistol. The objects used were determined to be a cellphone and silver pen type tire gauge, which the witnesses described as a gun barrel. It was also reported that the male stated to the children that there was possibly a bomb in his backpack. No firearms nor explosives were found on him or in the area.

Garvey was arrested for first degree threatening, risk of injury to a minor, and breach of peace. He was released and sent to Yale-New Haven Hospital for an evaluation.
