10/16/2013 12:00 AMOn Oct. 9, close to 200 members of the community gathered to celebrate 15 outstanding shoreline stars at Shore Publishing's first annual Beacon Awards Gala at Water's Edge. Fourteen of the honorees were able to attend this red-carpet event that gave engaged members from across the region a chance to meet, mingle, and share appreciation of the diverse endeavors taken on by this year's winners.
The 2013 Beacon Award winners were Barbara Brow of East Haven, Terri Cain of Guilford, John Divis of Chester, John (Jack) Eagan of Clinton, David Fowler of Ivoryton, Tina Garrity of Madison, Robert Green of Madison, Maryann Lincoln Hall of Branford, Laurie Heflin of Madison, Sandy Luke of Clinton, Charlotte Mattei of Branford, Johanne Pantani of Branford, Dan Perrotto of North Haven, M.J. Petretto of Guilford, and Fern Tryon of Old Saybrook.
The evening's silent auction featured items donated by Anchor & Compass Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, Fromage, The Kate, Kevin Timme Antiques, the Madison Beach Hotel, Massage Savvy, Page's Hardware & Appliances, Planet Fitness, RJ Julia Booksellers, Rituals Spa, Roses for Autism, the Spa of Essex, Steward's Ace Hardware, Timothy Pamment Salon, and Van Wilgen's.
Thanks to the generosity of the silent auction donors, $1,390 was raised and, with an additional contribution from Shore Publishing, a $100 donation will be made to the following beneficiaries chosen by the Beacon Award Winners: M.J. Petretto Foundation, The Chester Hose Co., Branford Food Pantry, Shoreline Greenway Trail, Clinton Rotary, Ronald McDonald House-New Haven, Madison Foundation Neighbor to Neighbor Fund, the Vietnam Veterans Association of America, Read to Grow, Christmas in Clinton, the BHCare Denis Olsen Lifeline Fund, MADE in Madison, the Guilford Fund For Education, Bikes for Kids, and the Madison Historical Society.
