10/01/2013 12:00 AMThe Guilford Free Library had another very successful annual book sale weekend. With abundant blue skies, and perfect temperatures, many book lovers showed up to support the library and go home with a new, special read. This year, the sale brought in $43,000, which will be used for future library services.
"This is our major fundraiser for the library each year and we are very pleased with how the event went and the money we raised," explained Library Director Sandy Ruoff.
The annual event has been the most successful fundraiser for the library over the past 31 years. Efforts for the sale begin each year about one week after the last sale ends. Lightly used books are donated to the library throughout the year and volunteers work diligently for the next twelve months sorting through and categorizing the books, getting them ready for the next annual event. This year nearly 35,000 books, from all genres, changed hands and found new homes over the three day weekend sale. In addition there were movies and baked goods that were also part of the sale.
"We did very, very well," said a very happy Stephanie Johnson, assistant library director who is retiring from her post this week. "We had beautiful weather, everything went smoothly and we had a fantastic selection of books."
She added, "A lot of hard work went into this sale and the volunteers really deserve a lot of credit and we are grateful for all their help in making this another successful event."
Now it's time to get ready for next year's fundraiser! All used books can be dropped off at the Guilford Free Library during regular library hours.
