09/25/2013 12:00 AMGather books at great prices at the 32nd annual Friends of Guilford Free Library Fall Book and Bake Sale, this Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29.
The big book sale is a beloved community event on the library grounds, where flocks of Friends man tables under tents bearing thousands of gently used books of all types and genres, from new fiction to non-fiction.
As all proceeds from the sale benefit programs, materials, and other needs of the Guilford Free Library, the Friends hope everyone will stop by this Friday through Sunday to stock up at prices that can't be beat. Most hardcover books are $3; trade books are $2 and paperbacks sell for 50 cents.
Spending hours browsing the Friends Fall Book and Bake Sale is an annual must-do for many Guilford residents, and this year's inventory of 35,000 books won't disappoint. There are 50 categories to choose from in areas including children's books, cook books, poetry, art, gardening, sports, biographies, travel, and self-help, to name a few. The sale also features a fine assortment of special books at special prices. On Saturday, the Friends Bake Sale takes place during the Book Sale. On Sunday, books are half price.
Once again, all books at the sale have been generously contributed over the past year by community members who drop off donations of books at the library year-round. A small army of Friends volunteers work weekly to check, sort, and store books as they arrive. All told, it takes more than 1,200 volunteer hours to ready the inventory for the fall sale each year.
Friends of the Guilford Free Library 32nd annual Book Sale is Friday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (includes the bake sale); and Sunday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Guilford Free Library, 67 Park Street.
