Witness Saw Plane Crash Upside Down

Federal investigators probing the deadly crash of an airplane into two Connecticut homes say a witness reported seeing the plane traveling upside-down as it sped nose-first toward the ground.

The preliminary report issued Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board does not reveal a possible cause for the Aug. 9 crash that killed four people.

The crash of the 10-seat airplane killed the two people on the plane and two girls who were inside one of the houses struck in East Haven, Conn.

A witness who was traveling on Interstate 95 told investigators that he saw the plane traveling at a high rate of speed as it plummeted near Tweed-New Haven airport. Investigators said previously that the plane was inverted when it hit one of the houses.
