08/02/2013 12:00 AMDemocrat Ted Zuse, a former Board of Education member who sought in 2011 retain his seat as a petitioning candidate, announced earlier today that he will seek the first selectman seat, again as a petitioning candidate. He will face Republican incumbent Joseph Mazza, who is seeking a second, four-year term, and incumbent Democratic Selectman Veronica Wallace, who announced July 29 her intention to seek the town’s top seat.
Zuse’s emailed statement said:
Dear Friends:
Two weeks ago the Guilford Democratic Town Committee submitted a press release...stating that they would not be running a first selectman candidate, thereby allowing Joe Mazza to secure another 4-year term unchallenged. As a life-long Democrat and previously elected public official, I believe it is important to challenge the status quo and the GOP party in Guilford. I therefore decided to run for this office and serve the residents of Guilford. In order to run for office, I need to secure 247 signatures to petition to be on the ballot. I ask for your help by visiting me at Zuse Inc. at 727 Boston Post Road to sign my petition so that we can challenge the GOP and make continuous improvements in Guilford.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Ted
