Work on the Route 80 widening project, which has been on hold, is expected to resume next week, now that Fire Company 1 has temporarily relocated to Northford.

"Basically, what has delayed the construction was the impact it would have on the elevation of the road and the work that was going to impede the emergency response vehicles and/or volunteers coming and going; so they had to come up with a plan to relocate them," said Town Manager Mike Paulhus.

North Branford Fire Chief William Seward III made the decision that he feels "most comfortable" locating to Company 2, said Paulhus.

Company 1, located on Foxon Road, is the town's fire headquarters building. Its apparatus is now in place at Company 2 in Northford. A meeting tomorrow will finalize the move and details of when exactly the Route 80 widening project contractor, Guerrera Construction, will be back to work, said Paulhus.

"We're hoping tomorrow to hear they'll be back on site next week," said Paulhus.
