Tattoo, Parade, and Muster This Weekend

The Deep River Ancient Muster parade promises a unique spectacle down main Street in Deep river each year.

This weekend one of the great and colorful traditions in early fife and drum music will come marching through town. The public is invited and a good time will be had by all.

The Deep River Ancient Muster-one of the oldest and largest gatherings of fife and drum participants and enthusiasts in the world-will be here Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20. The muster, by tradition, is always on the third Saturday of July. It attracts scores of participating fife and drum corps and crowds of enthusiastic fans. It is sometimes referred to as “The Granddaddy of All Musters” and “A Colonial Woodstock.”

Corps come to this muster from throughout New England and across the country, and from overseas. The muster is known for the quality of the corps it attracts. The result is a day and a half of music and friendly competition that knows no comparison-until it happens all over again the following year. Visit http://dram.fifedrum.org for complete details.

Here is the schedule:

• The Tattoo will be Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at Devitt’s Field, hosted by the Deep River Junior Ancients. For more information, visit the Deep River Junior Ancients’ website www.drja.org.

• Saturday the parade steps off at 11 a.m. from the corner of Kirtland Street and Main. From there the corps proceed down Main Street to Deviit’s Field.

• The muster begins immediately following the parade, again at Devitt’s Field. Hosts for the parade and muster at the Deep River Ancient Muster Committee and the Deep River Drum Corps.
