07/08/2013 12:00 AMPress Release: The Branford High School (BHS) Class of 2015 raised over three times their fundraising goal at a Disney-themed benefit concert for Camdyn Dunn, a 5
th
grade student at Walsh Intermediate School who is suffering from Stage 3 Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma.
Over 350 people attended the concert on Saturday, June 1, at the BHS Auditorium to support Camdyn. The concert included performances from BHS Concert Choir, Mainstreet Singers, Music Makers, and solo student performers. Many performers, including the choral director and tech crew advisor, were dressed in costume. Audience members, including many young children, also arrived in costume.
The concert featured a heartfelt speech given by Camdyn’s mother, Rachel Dunn, who shared her admiration of her daughter’s strength and resilience. She expressed her gratitude for the effort made by the Class of 2015 for all those who chose to help support Camdyn.
The concert ended on a high note with the presentation of posters to Camdyn that had been signed by Branford Public Schools’ students K-12, followed by a very powerful performance of the Disney classic, “The Circle of Life” by BHS Concert Choir.
Camdyn’s entire soccer team attended the show, and they were inspired to go up and do a team cheer at the very end of the concert, leaving everyone in the auditorium happy and proud of the accomplishment that had been made.
With the greatly successful outcome of the concert, the Class of 2015 was able to surpass its past fundraising efforts and more than triple their original goal for the event (raising over $3,600). As a result of the event, Camdyn’s amazing story was successfully spread throughout the community as a source of great inspiration for all.
John Matheissen, Class of 2015 advisor, said, “It was inspiring to see the hard work and leadership of our class officers and the BHS choral program. The guests and other donors responded with overwhelming generosity.”
Michael Caminear, President of the Class of 2015, added, “I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome of Camdyn’s Concert. Not only did this benefit Camdyn and her mother, but it inspired the Branford community and showed the dedication the BHS Class of 2015 had in putting together such an outstanding event.”
Jeremy Keckler, Class of 2015 Boy’s Social Chair also commented, “It felt great to help make this happen for Camdyn,” and Class of 2015 Secretary Haley Brown added, “Working with my fellow officers alongside Camdyn was an experience I’ll always remember. I will always be able to reflect on the good we did during our sophomore year.”
