07/01/2013 12:00 AMPolice, firefighters, and members of the ambulance association in Old Saybrook responded to a report fo a person missing in the water at the mouth of the Connecticut River in Long Island Sound on Sunday, June 30.
A boat transiting the area found and rescued a man in the water who reported that
his companion was missing. A Search & Rescue Operation started and involved
Fire Boats from the towns of Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, and
Essex. Later the Haddam Fire Dept with special scanning sonar equipment joined
the search. Law Enforcement Boats involved were the Old Saybrook Police Dept,
Old Lyme Police, CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and
the CT State Police. The US Coast Guard provided a boat from their Station in
New London as well as a Coast Guard Helicopter from Cape Cod.
The missing man was not located during the Search and Rescue phase of the
operation. The US Coast Guard will remain on scene throughout the night and
will conduct further operations tomorrow with additional assets from their agency.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is
conducting the investigation of the incident and should be contacted for any
official details or further information.
The Old Saybrook Fire Department does not have any further details pertaining to the incident to release.
