Zoners Approve Incentive Housing Zone Proposal

A new development approved last week by the Westbrook Zoning Commission will add 20 new housing units plus one more in a renovated and preserved historic home facing on Old Clinton Road. The new development will be built on two parcels accessed from Old Clinton Road just north of the train tracks.

Twenty percent of the residential development's units will be designated affordable for occupancy by households earning up to eighty percent of the area's median income.

As a condition of the Commission's approval, the buffer area between the development and the adjacent landowner, the federal government, was strengthened compared to the developer's original  plans. The condition requires installation of a new fence on the boundary as well as added landscaping to provide a better buffer between the development and the Stewart B. McKinney National Wlidlife Refuge's Salt Meadow Unit.
