Campbell Seeks First Selectman's Seat

Andrew Campbell is looking to become Branford's next Democratic First Selectman.

Branford Second Selectman Andrew Campbell wants to be the town's’s next First Selectman, he confirmed for The Sound today.

Campbell has sent the Branford Democratic Town Committee (DTC) his request for endorsement as the Democratic candidate for First Selectman in the Nov. 2013 election. The decision was triggered based on yesterday’s official news from Branford First Selectman Anthony “Unk” DaRos (D) that he would not seek a third consecutive term (see our story, “DaRos Will Not Run”).

In his resume submitted to the DTC, Campbell describes his strengths as including a “…tireless work ethic and a successful track record (with a) history of energizing and leading civic and governmental administrations as an effective communicator and collaborator, leading by example.”

Prior to winning his current term as the town’s Second Selectman, Campbell was elected to serve on the RTM from 1997-2003 and also served on the RTM in 2011. Campbell served as chairman for the Branford Democratic Town Committee (2000-2002), Branford RTM Rules and Ordinances Committee (2003), Branford Tax Relief Committee (2006) and South Central Connecticut Cable Advisory Council, Inc. (1996-97). Campbell was also a member of the Branford Town Technology Strategy Committee (2002-2003).  His civic involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors of Branford Youth Football and Branford Youth Soccer and he has coached youth soccer and football in town.

Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Campbell has resided in Branford since 1994 with his wife. The Campbells have three daughters and one son. Campbell is a Branford attorney (Law Office of Andrew J. Campbell) with over 15 years in practice. In 2010, Campbell received the Outstanding Advocacy Award from the New Haven Regional Children's Probate Court.
