th
day of school on Friday, March 21. However, they doubled that number collecting over 250 cans/food items for the Guilford Food Pantry.
“We are so happy that our fellow students really rose to the challenge and contributed so many food items,” Maggie Bradley, Council Vice President and organizer of event said. “We cannot believe that we were able to collect so many cans of food for the food bank and are really grateful for the support.”
The Lakes Student Council has 4 community service events this year – Valentines for Veterans, Zumbathon for Newtown Relief Fund, the Pennies for Patients program and now the Foodbank drive.
Thomas Ring, Treasurer added, “We were really just hoping that we would meet our goal of 120 cans, but are really excited that we doubled our efforts.”
“The folks at the food bank were especially grateful telling us that they receive alot of donations in December, but it is nice to have them throughout the year as folks really need help year-round,” Historian Lauren Skoglund said.
The Student Council is planning on doing another food drive before the end of the year to help the food bank stock up for the summer months where donations are slimmer.
“We are really having fun on the Council this year learning about government and what it means to lead by example,” School Spirit Chairman Evan Ghoreyeb said.
“These children on the Council are amazing and it is such a pleasure to work with them,” Cindy Cartier, Parent Advisor to the Council said. “They have initiated most of the events and really worked hard to make a difference for their school and our Town. I am so proud of them.”
