State Roads Re-open, But Many Residents Still Snowed In

The travel ban on all roads, including major highways, was be lifted at 4 p.m., according to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

"While we are lifting the ban on travel this afternoon at 4PM, I still want to urge residents to stay off the roads if at all possible," Malloy said in a press release. "Crews are out clearing roadways as we speak, but the fact is we are going to feel the impact of this storm for some time. The longer we can keep traffic out of town centers and off of our highways, the more effective our recovery effort will be."

While road travel is no longer prohibited, it's something of a moot point for many area residents who are still either unable to clear the effects of this massive storm from their walkways or driveways or, possibly more frustraing, have cleared their driveways and are now waiting for the very busy town and state road crews to clear their residential roads.

"Foxon Blvd. still has 2 1/2 feet in the street....driveways [are] being done, but [there] doesn't seem to be any hope for the near future with our road," reported Dani Marie on the East Haven Courier Facebook page.

"No plow has come down our street either. I understand the city is concentrating on clearing all paths to the hospitals first, said Guilford Courier Facebook commenter Marietta Azarra Seymour.

"I haven't seen a state truck plow Rt. 1 since last night, either! Cars are moving very slowly, so much snow I cannot even see the road. My street has been plowed (private company), but the snow is piled so high I can barely see my mailbox, which is 4 feet off the ground. It is eerily quite for a Saturday," commented Sybil Maye Nassau on the Harbor News facebook page.
