08/24/2012 11:00 AMThis morning just before 6 a.m., Clinton Police were dispatched to a report of a car break in, where it was reported that two males were seen running from the victim’s car on East Walk. Officers Matthew Reed and David Cairns immediately responded. Once in the area, Ofc. Reed located a male running on Beach Park Rd., who fit the description of one of the suspects, and did not appear to be dressed in clothing consistent with a person out for a “morning jog.” Ofc. Reed detained this male who was subsequently identified as Kevin Ruffino-Smith (9/20/93) of 38 Cherry Lane, Durham.
A short time later, Ofc. Reed located a second male identified as Calvin Alderete (9/16/93) of 163 Mica Hill Rd., Durham. Alderete was found hiding in some bushes also in the immediate vicinity of where the police were searching.
The investigation determined that both Ruffino-Smith and Alderete had spent the night with some friends at a house on Hammock Parkway. The two were charged with committing this car break in, as well as two other reported car burglaries in the area.
Both suspects were taken into custody and charged. At this time, both suspects are charged with three counts of Burglary in the Third Degree; three counts of Larceny in the Sixth Degree, and one count of Conspiracy. Alderete posted a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court on Sept. 4. Ruffino-Smith also posted a $500 bond and is also scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court on Sept. 4.
Any residents of this area of Clinton who believe they, too, were victims of a car break in overnight are urged to call Clinton Police at 860-669-0451.
