Three instances of graffiti appeared in downtown Madison this past weekend. Two portraits of Abraham Lincoln were spray painted in black, one on the side of Coldwell Banker Real Estate and another on the vacant building next to Savy Tea, while a red representation of Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy in the original Star Trek series, was painted on the side of People's United Bank.

Philip Parda, owner of Savvy Tea, who was not in the restaurant on Monday or Tuesday, said, "I noticed it on Wednesday, but I heard it had appeared on Saturday."

Julia Haskell-Krause, the senior customer service associate at People's United Bank, saw the graffiti on Monday morning after being informed of its existence by an employee of Village Pizza Restaurant.

"I love Spock, but it shouldn't be done," said Haskell-Krause.

Parda remains curious not necessarily as to who did it, but as to why. He said, "It is like, 'What does it mean?'"
