08/03/2012 11:00 AMBranford native Mike Olt — who was promoted to the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball last night — didn't have to wait long to see his first game action as Olt was in the starting lineup for Thursday's contest against the Los Angeles Angels. The former Hornets' and UConn Huskies' standout played first base and batted eighth between Geovany Soto and Craig Gentry when Texas faced Angels' lefty C.J. Wilson. On the mound for the Rangers was Ryan Dempster, who was recently acquired in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.
Olt went 1-for-3 with a run scored in his Major League debut playing for the Texas Rangers against the Los Angeles Angels in Arlington, Texas.
Olt hit a single in his first Major League at-bat, lacing an 0-1 pitch from Angels' lefty C.J. Wilson to left field in the bottom of the second inning. Olt then scored a run on a Josh Hamilton single to help the Texas Rangers score five runs in the frame and take a 6-2 lead.
Then in the third, Olt lined out to shortstop, after which he struck out swinging against Wilson in the fifth.
Olt was slated to come to bat in an 8-8 game in the seventh inning, but Rangers' manager Ron Washington instead brought in Mitch Moreland as a pinch hitter. Moreland singled in the go-ahead run.
In addition to his three at-bats, Olt also recorded six put outs at first base.
