08/01/2012 12:00 PMTwo subjects, Zoltan Verillo, 27, of Branford, and a white female, are believed to have gone on a larceny spree at Stop & Shop that spanned several days and encompassed several thousands of dollars of merchandise according to a press release by the Madison Police Department. On July 27 after being confronted by security personnel the two fled, on foot, into the downtown area.
Ally Hill of Jolie Boutique was working the weekend’s sidewalk sale when she saw policemen run out of an alleyway that separates The Country Shop and The Aerodome, which houses Jolie Boutique.
Hill described the scene: “They came up between our two buildings. We were standing outside manning the sidewalk sale. They [the police] came up between these two buildings and when he came up he was yelling, ‘Did a woman run through here?’ It was all about a woman. We didn’t see anybody. They said, ‘Blonde hair tied back.’”
Verillo remained at large for several hours and, according to Hill, witnesses to the incident reported seeing Verillo jump into Tunxis Pond with police pursuing him via boat. He then ran into the woods and was later apprehended after a second foot chase in the area of Academy School.
Verillo is charged with organized retail theft, larceny in the third degree, and interfering with police. The female subject is still at large and police are attempting to locate her.
