Valid CTA Petition Calls for Special Meeting
The Clinton Taxpayer’s Association (CTA) is continuing its efforts to reverse town approval at an April referendum of $64,750,000 for a new Morgan School.
Following rejection of an earlier petition for a lack of specificity, CTA’s latest petition calls for a special town meeting to consider a resolution to overturn the previous referendum, reducing that appropriation to $5,000,000, which would cover monies already spent in the planning process.
The town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at The Morgan School auditorium on Tuesday, June 26.
CTA maintains that holding a referendum when summer residents are not present equates to “taxation without representation.”
In a press release (see related content at right), CTA Morgan Task Force Chair Len Fried states, “Timing the vote on this resolution with one fourth of the taxpayers not present and following years of needlessly complicating absentee ballot procedures, whether intended or not, disenfranchised people who are going to pay much of the bill.”
The Harbor News is seeking comment from CTA representatives about the likelihood that many families whose summer vacation plans, set around school schedules, may not be able to attend the town meeting and/or any resultant referendum.
