Flutterby to Get Cash Mobbed

On June 16 from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Flutterby on the Guilford Green will be the location of the second regional cash mob. A cash mob is aimed at supporting local businesses and the local economy. The premise is very simple. Gather a group of people to descend en masse on a pre-selected retailer and for each person to spend $20.

Cash Mob Guilford will have a slightly different flavor than "traditional" cash mobs. Typically cash mobs are completely focused on helping the selected retailer. The retailer is just the lucky recipient of the community support. Beth O'Bymachow, owner of Flutterby, is going the extra mile to help all of the businesses around the Green. "Flutterby won the Cash Mob contest but it is a great way to bring attention to all of the great stores and restaurants located around the Green," said O'Bymachow. Area businesses have been invited to participate and are offering specials and discounts.

The Guilford Chamber of Commerce and the Guilford Economic Development Commission are enthusiastic supporters of the event. "This event gives Guilford the opportunity to showcase to the entire region what the residents of Guilford already know; Guilford is a great place to shop and dine", said Janet Testa of the Guilford Chamber of Commerce. Brian McGlone Guilford Economic Development Coordinator added "We all know the power of buying local and this event will draw attention to the importance of supporting local businesses". It is estimated purchases made in locally owned and operated businesses result in twice as much money remaining in the community.

Nominations and voting for the cash mob location occurs on both Facebook and Twitter. Follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/cashmobct) or Twitter (www.twitter.com/cashmobct) to be part of the movement to support our local economy.
