The Spirit of Broadway Shines Here

The Guilford High School April production of Evita garnered more than rave reviews from the audience-the production has been named finalist in 10 Connecticut High School Music Theatre Awards.

Just a few short weeks ago, Guilford High School's (GHS) production of Evita thrilled local audiences.

Now, the 2012 spring musical has been nominated for no fewer than 10 Connecticut High School Music Theatre Awards (CHSMTA). The winners of the awards will be announced on June 4, said GHS English teacher Cara Mulqueen-Teasdale.

Mulqueen-Teasdale has been nominated as outstanding director for Evita (see sidebar for a complete list of categories and all GHS nominees). GHS Theater Arts is among 20 schools recognized in 18 categories by the 2012 CHSMTA.

The CHSMTA is sponsored by the Spirit of Broadway Theater in Norwich.

"On behalf of the students and my colleagues, we are so grateful for the recognition," said Mulqueen-Teasdale. "We are very fortunate to live in a community that supports the performing arts and couldn't have produced this show without the extraordinary level of commitment from the administration, teachers, parents, friends, and students."

GHS Theatre Arts' 10 nominations mark the highest number of nominations the group has received in its history, said Mulqueen-Teasdale. All winners will be announced during a black tie gala at Waterbury's Palace Theatre on June 4.
