12/08/2011 11:00 PMMembers of the Madison Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and the North Branford Police Department Criminal Investigation Division today arrested Christopher Bishop, the primary suspect in connection with the Nov. 18 Liberty Bank Robbery in Madison and the Oct. 5 First Niagara Bank in North Branford.
Madison Police Department and North Branford police detectives, with the cooperation of the Plainfield Police Department, New Haven Office of the FBI, and members of the Connecticut State Police, were able to identify Bishop, an East Haven resident, as the primary suspect in the Liberty Bank robbery.
Madison and North Branford detectives took Bishop into custody today, Dec. 9. Bishop was then transported to the Madison Police Department for processing.
Christopher Bishop, 37, of 41 Philip Street in East Haven, was charged with third degree larceny and breach of peace. He was held on a $250,000 court-set bond and is scheduled to appear in GA 23 in New Haven on Monday, Dec. 12.
Bishop was also arrested by the North Branford Police Department on a valid arrest warrant and charged with third degree larceny and breach of peace. He is being held on a $100,000 court-set bond for that arrest.
Subsequent investigation has revealed that Bishop is also allegedly responsible for the recent bank robberies in Waterbury, Meriden, Essex, and Plainfield. The investigation into these robberies is ongoing at this time.
