Newsweek Names Daniel Hand High School Among Nation's Top 500
At Daniel Hand High School, national recognition just keeps rolling in.
This week it was announced that the school has been ranked among the top 500 public schools in the nation, according to Newsweek magazine. Daniel Hand ranked 231 out of the 500 high schools named as "America's Best High Schools" in the magazine's June 27 edition. Of the 500 schools named, 12 are Connecticut schools.
The magazine has been ranking the top public schools in America for more than a decade. This year the magazine revamped its methodology as it compiled the list. The editors explained, "These are challenging times for secondary education. Cash-strapped school districts are cutting back; No Child Left Behind mandates test results; parents and students are stressed. (We) revamped our methodology this year in hopes of highlighting solutions."
